In case you haven’t already noticed, the Plan to Eat website, including our desktop app, blog, and customer support site, has a new paint job!

While the content for our homepage and tour are different (go check it out!), we have primarily changed the color scheme for our desktop app so it looks more consistent with rest of our brand; specifically our iOS and Android mobile apps. This style update has not changed, moved, or removed any of our existing features. Everything you love about Plan to Eat has stayed exactly the same!

As we continue to work to update the app and include the features we offer on our desktop site, we wanted to also make sure that we didn’t neglect the appearance of the desktop site. While our main focus is, and always has been, to make planning meals easier for our customers, we were excited to make this change for the overall appearance of Plan to Eat. And don’t worry, we also have some exciting new features planned for our desktop site this year.

Plan to Eat will be 10 years old in July 2019, and we are truly thankful for all of our customers making our mobile apps and continued updates possible. Plan to Eat has never been better and we are so thankful for all of you!

Thank you!

  1. I noticed it when I went to make dinner tonight and decided to check the blog for more details. I love the colors!

  2. Saw the color change and it looks nice. Unfortunately, I’m in my 60s now and I find it hard to read the grey text color you chose (for example, on this “New Coat of Paint” page. Also, I’ve noticed lately that the “Add to PTE” applet is struggling with importing recipes at some of the sites.

I LOVE what you do – you’ve been my go-to for the last 8 years, I think. Thanks for considering my input. Best, Linda

    1. Hello! We’ve made an update to the contrast of the font colors , please take a look and let us know if that helped!

  3. God you guys are the best. I don’t know how I would live without this program, truly I don’t. The new look is lovely, two thumbs way up.

  4. I am so glad you guys came out with an app. It really felt like you guys were resistant for so many years, but it’s made PTE the solution for me. Before the app, I loved you guys, but I would have dropped you for an alternative if one had come along.

    Just wanted to say thanks!

  5. It’s very beautiful, and I really appreciate the commitment to this app, which I love!

But, and this is a huge but: it is VERY inaccessible for people with visual impairments. It’s hard to read, and the text on all the pages fails the basic Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. I know it sucks to rebuild a website and then have to rebuild it again (trust me, I know!) but I think a commitment to accessibility and user experience would be wonderful and would show a respect for ALL users, not just your users with good eyesight!

    1. Hello! Thank you for this! We’ve made an update to the contrast of the font colors , please take a look and let us know if that helped!

  6. I love your new look! It’s clean and very soothing. I’ve been a subscriber for over 8 years and will never quit.

  7. I noticed someone else commented about the grey text. I am in my 40s and struggle to read the content. Please go to black.

  8. I like the new look! I am hoping one of the “exciting new features” in the works is integration with Alexa. That would definitely make meal planning easier.

  9. The color scheme on the app doesn’t seem to be an issue for me (says it was updated 2 days ago so I assume it’s current) but the website is very washed out. Lunch and dinner appears to be the same color, at least for my monitor. I can see where you all are going with the color scheme but it is hard for those who do have vision issues.

If it would be possible to design it so that users can adjust the color contrast or have different color palettes or themes to chose from, that might take care of a lot of issues.

  10. Just wanted to tell you how much i love your site. I use it almost everyday and it has changed my life. It saves me so much time every week when i plan my menus and shopping list. My sisters and i love being able to share our recipes. My best annual purchase of all time! So, just thought you would like to know. Btw, love the changes, too! Keep up the great work!

  11. Looks great!

I’ve entered my 4th year using Plan To Eat and renewing my subscription every year takes no hesitance whatsoever.

I love the site and use it every day. It’s actually responsible from my shift from “liking to cook” to “LOVING to cook”!

    Thank you!

  12. thank you so much for the update. I to am older and was not able to see the light gray, so can not tell you how much I appreciate the color change. I love this app! Thanks for listening it is appreciated!!!

  13. I love the new color scheme. It is so much brighter. I wish you would add a freezer app that would let you add items to the freezer without having to add a recipe. I would like to keep track of the number of frozen meats, bread, pizza, ice cream, butter I have stored in the freezer.

    1. Hi Marcie! Thanks so much for your kind feedback on the new colors! A freezer inventory of ingredients is something we are looking into!

  14. Still hoping and waiting for integration with Alexa, specifically Echo Show. PTE via web browser on the Echo Show is not very good. Is there any plan for Alexa Skills or an App on the Echo Show platform?

    1. Hey Craig!
While we do not currently have an integration with Alexa in progress, we are investigating how we can do this and what we need to implement to make this possible. This is a very popular request and it is on our list!

We have been told that a workaround for using Plan to Eat on an Echo Show is to launch the Silk app web browser, then navigate to the PTE website and login. You can also save your password for faster login. This is the only workaround we know of at the moment for any Alexa devices.

If we are able to make an Alexa feature possible we will send an email newsletter to notify everyone of this updates!

      Thanks!

  15. Plan to Eat is a game-changer. It’s so convenient to use online or on my phone. Thanks for all the work going into development, and the new paint job looks great. Regarding Linda’s problem with the clipper, I wonder if it’s because there are still websites not using the standardized markup for recipes? For example, I can’t pull the ingredient measurements from this recipe and it takes longer to import: https://www.weightandwellness.com/resources/recipes/chicken-and-ranch-stuffed-peppers/ . I think they just type the recipes on the page instead of using a plug in or something to format. I doubt this is an issue with Plan to Eat, it’s the website.

    1. Hey Shelley,

Thanks for the input! We do still find websites that have recipe information not added in a standardized manner that makes it difficult to grab with the recipe clipper. Some sites also have blockers that prevent other applications from reading the information. We always recommend double checking recipe imports for missing information.

      Thanks!

  16. The new colors on the desktop layout is seriously amazing!! I have been using plan-to-eat for at least 5 years and it is a vital component to feeding my family healthy meals. HUGE congrats on 10 years…I am SO grateful for this program.
